In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how 'Newsmaker' software provides students an easy, affordable, and fun platform to practise writing, speaking and presentation skills, bringing their work to life. 'Newsmaker' is neither grade-level specific nor content-area specific. It is a tool to help students improve their communication skills while mastering content in any subject area. With 'Newsmaker' students take the role of news anchor and news producer, creating their own story in 3 easy steps: Write! Read! Publish! Teachers will gain an insight and develop the skills necessary to be able to incorporate this technology into their classroom. At the conclusion of the workshop participants will receive a CD with their final production loaded onto it. Note: This workshop is designed for teachers of all skill levels.
Half Day Workshop Outline Session 1 - Syllabus links & Storyboard ideas Learn how we can bring students work in the classroom to life through a news production. Session 2 - Write the Story In the role of 'reporter', the participant plans and writes a news story. This story is then imported into NewsMaker ready for the next step. Session 3 - Read the Story In this session the computer monitor then serves as a teleprompter, and the 'news anchor' reads the story aloud for practice, then makes a recording. Built-in face-tracking, blue-screen and other fun video technologies makes it easy to overlay impressive visual effects. Video can also be imported that has been shot at other locations making this an ideal way of bringing together information, video and sound from a previous events such as a school excursion. Session 4 - Publish the Story In this final stage, the participant becomes the 'news producer' and publishes the recorded clip as a single video file to be saved onto a CD.
