The goal of the Sammat Education Peer Coaching program is to assist teachers to become effective users of technology within their classroom. This encompasses training teachers to become efficient users of technology facilities, software programs, email, web services and the internet. The program also focuses on assisting teachers in programming units of work based upon the outcomes required from their particular syllabus as well as following their school ICT Management Plan.

The expected values and benefits for teachers include:

• increased confidence in using school technology facilities;
• increased knowledge and use of the internet, email and other resources;
• ability to create online classrooms and discussion groups through web services;
• develop skills in the use of software programs; and 
• develop units of work that effectively integrate technology and model quality teaching principles.

Each program is tailored to suit the individual needs of participating teachers. The format and amount of time spent on individual coaching sessions will be determined by the development of an individualised program and may include the following activities:

• assisting participants in developing units of work; 
• providing examples of student projects and ideas; 
• demonstrating, evaluate or team-teach lessons;
• providing self-paced directions to common tasks using application software; and 
• evaluating the coaching plan and providing recommendations for the future.
